A disturbing video in circulation on social media purports to show a Kashmiri Truck Driver Beaten Badly after the deadly Terrorist attack in Pulwama, India. Allegedly, the incident at Udhampur is an aftermath of the terrorist attack. Udhampur is a City in the Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir, where Pulwama happens to be a district. Notably, the video also appeared on social media with claims suggesting Hindus are attacking Kashmiris/Muslims. No, the claims are not true – the video does not show a Kashmiri truck driver beaten badly after Pulwama attack.
Not Kashmiri Truck Driver Beaten by Public/Hindus
The video does indeed show a truck driver bleeding badly from head over eye as abusive conversations are heard around. It appeared on social media two days after the terrorist attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on 14th February 2019. The deadly attack killed more than 40 CRPF jawans, injuring many others. Following the terrorist attack, protests did break out in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir including Udhampur and Curfew was imposed in Jammu. People from various sectors came on road shows and widely criticized the brutal killing in the blast. However, as described with the video, no such incident took place where a Kashmiri truck driver was beaten badly during the protests.
The video in question is in fact an old one, not related to any aftermath of Pulwama attack. YouTube channel Kashmir Prism shared the video in April 2018 saying, “Kashmiri driver beaten by Police in Punjab“. After the false claims went viral, District Senior Superintendent of Police in Udhampur refuted the rumors on Twitter. The official also urged people not to pay heed to such rumors.
Some miscreants are floating rumors about attack on Kashmir based drivers/vehicles at Udhampur. This is totally baseless and fake. Don't pay heed to such rumors. Rumors mongers would be dealt strictly under law : SSP Udhampur

So, the messages claiming the video shows a Kashmiri truck driver beaten badly after Pulwama attack are just hoaxes.
Other False Claims with Unrelated Videos
In the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Pulwama that killed more than 40 CRPF jawans of India, some social media users have been sharing old, unrelated videos with false interpretations. They suggested the People of Kashmir/Muslims are being beaten by Hindus in different parts of India. Further, they also mentioned destruction of properties, adding Muslims in India are not safe.
One such video actually showed an ugly brawl at a five-star hotel in Delhi’s Janakpuri during a wedding. The video, which went viral a week earlier, shows how the wedding guests clashed with the hotel staff over serving of stale food. They also destroyed the hotel property. Police arrested many of them later.
It is unfortunate to see fake news like these has become a growing problem on social media sites. Users must be careful of what they believe and share on the public platforms.
