Not New Zealand Shooter Beaten Badly in Prison

The disturbing video circulating on Twitter garnered more than million views as of this writing and users retweeted it thousands of times. Post the deadly shooting in New Zealand which killed 50 people in two mosques, the suspect was arrested. The video is in fact security footage from Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre showing the fight on 3rd March 2015. It shows two men bashing Carlos Larmond while eight other inmates watch during an altercation. The inmates attacked the accused terrorist Carlos Larmond after he allegedly threatened to kill one of them if he did not convert to Islam. Shown below is a longer footage of the incident. The Status of New Zealand Mosque Shooter

The accused shooter, 28-year-old Australian and white supremacist live-streamed the deadly attacks in two mosques of New Zealand, which killed 50 people during Friday prayers. The terror act garnered extreme criticism worldwide. According to a report on The Straits Times website straitstimes.com, the gunman is held in a “specialist security facility” outside of Christchurch and his next court appearance shall be on 5th April 2019.

New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters said the mosque gunman would spend the rest of his life in isolation in prison. New Zealand judicial system does not have a death penalty. “No punishment can match the depravity of his crime but the families of the fallen will have justice,” Peters told representatives of Muslim nations. He also called for solidarity to eradicate “hate-filled ideologies.”

Coming back to story in question, the disturbing video does not show the New Zealand shooter beaten badly in Prison. It is an old incident from March 2015 which took place in a Canada Detention Centre.
