A story in sharing on social media sites purports to show a Tragic Picture of a (Martyr’s) Blood-Stained Quran found at the scene of Christchurch Mosque Attack, New Zealand. After the deadly terror attack killed 50 Muslims during Friday prayers, many viewers considered the story factual. However, the picture is not from the Christchurch Mosque Attack in New Zealand.
About the Picture of Blood-Stained Quran
The story in question appeared on Twitter and Facebook among others as some users shared the picture of Blood-stained Quran. They claimed the noble Quran in blood will be a witness of the martyrs in New Zealand mosque attacks. Subsequently, many other social media users and pages also shared the picture expressing prayers for the dead and wishes for their families.
Contrary to the claims, the picture showing a Quran with blood stains is not from the mosque attacks in New Zealand. It appeared online earlier in September 2018, when a deadly airstrike hit a public hospital and a boarding school in Sakow town of Somalia. Viewers are warned of graphic pictures below and inside the linked articles.
The picture of blood-stained Quran comes from a set of pictures released by AlShabaab saying 12 AlShabaab militants were killed in the airstrike, adding local media also reported death of 3 children. The Militant group AlShabaab accused United States military for the attack. US military, however, denied to have carried out the strike.


To conclude, the tragic picture does not show a blood-stained Quran found at the scene of Christchurch mosque attack in New Zealand in March 2019. It is an old picture which appeared online earlier in September 2018.
